1940s Paintings
“After a conventional art school, I was introduced to David Bomberg’s class at the Borough Polytechnic. At first suspicious of Bomberg’s approach to teaching, I was won over by his deep seriousness and the enthusiasm of his two most dedicated students, Cliff Holden and Dorothy Mead. I became a member of the Borough Group and contributed to all its exhibitions. This period culminates in three major paintings, Resurrection (1947), Duino (1948), The living know that they shall die (1949).”
